Questionnaire
The journey to get Naked begins with sharing your background with us in the Get Naked Questionnaire. Have a read of our How to Get Naked page and find the link in Step 2.
The questionnaire asks you some basic questions about your size, height and weight. It then goes into questions about your riding history and the type of experience you’d like to have on your new bicycle. We also ask you to explore the five bicycle models from which all of our customs are built, along with the excellent core configurations that we offer. This will give you a good sense of the basic ride qualities of each bike as well as a range of costs and timelines depending on the options you choose.
Having your basic information and a common language with which we can talk about design, makes our fit and follow-on consultations much more productive.
Your Fit
In an ideal world, you’ll come to Quadra Island to meet us in-person, to see our shop and to be fit by Sam on our custom fit-bike. We can learn so much by watching you pedal and asking you questions in-person. If the stars are aligned and we’re lucky with the weather, we sometimes even get to go on a ride with our customers.
We think that Quadra Island is well worth the visit, even if you aren’t getting fit for a bike. There’s a reason we work and live here!
Nestled between the Coastal Mountain Range and Vancouver Island in the Great Bear Rainforest, Quadra offers beautiful views of the ocean and surrounding mountains. We have beautiful roads for cycling and some of the best mountain biking trails in the world.
A fit session typically starts with us measuring your existing bike and discussing how it rides. We configure our fit-bike based on your base measurements and then we watch you pedal. First, we’ll make coarse adjustments so that you can feel what happens as we shift your riding position on the bike. Then, we’ll continue to refine the fit until you feel comfortable and aligned for you goals for the build. You can think of this process much like visiting the optometrist!
We do recommend you bring your own cycling shoes and pedals!
Can’t make it to Quadra Island?
We can certainly determine your fit in other ways. We’ll ask you to list any existing bikes that you have, along with the year, manufacturer and model name. We can use your experience on each of those bikes to help shape the design of your new bike. If you haven’t previously had a professional fit, we’ll ask that you find a reputable fitter in your area. We would appreciate it if you could use the Naked Fitting Worksheet to gather that information.
Consultation
Each frameset that we build is custom designed for you. Geometry and tube selection aren’t solely dictated by fit measurements which include reach, height and weight. We also consider how aggressive you ride, how much you value comfort over stiffness as well as your preferred handling dynamics. If you don’t know how you feel about any of those things, don’t worry! We’ll work through a number of questions in your design consultation that will help us determine the size, thickness and shape of each tube.
Our aim is to deliver you your perfect combination of handling, suppleness, rigidity and lightness without compromising on durability.
Once we’ve narrowed down the general parameters for your frameset, we’ll review components and put together a package of parts that meet your budget and performance requirements. If you explore each of our bikes, you’ll notice that we have core configurations for each bike type that offer exceptional value and that can make it possible for us to deliver your bicycle on a tighter timeline.
